Coborn Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/07/13)—Concordia freshman forward Tucker Coborn (Park Rapids, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Player of the Week it was announced by the league office. Coborn's first collegiate goal in overtime helped the Cobbers beat No.3-ranked UW-Eau Claire 2-1 on Saturday.

Coborn's improved play during his first year in maroon and gold has helped Concordia win three of their last five games and record six overall wins heading into the grueling stretch of conference games.

Despite his lack of total goals, Cobber head coach Chris Howe has been happy with the way Coborn has been playing as of late, "he has really been playing well in the offensive end," said Howe. "I keep telling him that he is getting good chances and that the goals will eventually come."

Coborn picked the perfect spot to break out of his scoring slump when he one-timed home the game winner against Eau Claire to give Concordia their first win over an NCHA opponent since the 2008-09 season.

In addition to his game winner on Saturday, Coborn had an assist with two shots and a plus/minus rating of plus-1 in a 5-3 nonconference loss at UW-River Falls on Friday. Coborn has appeared in all 15 games, and now has six assists and one goal in his first season with the Cobbers for a total of seven points, which ranks sixth on the team. His six assists are tied for 14th in the MIAC.

Concordia will start their stretch of four straight conference series when they play at Augsburg on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12.
