3-Goal Rally Falls One Short

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/03/12)--  Concordia fell behind 4-0, staged a furious three-goal rally but couldn't get all the way even and lost 4-3 to UW-Stout on Saturday.

The Cobbers dug themselves a four-goal hole by allowing a single goal in the first period, a second goal less than a minute into the second frame and then a pair of goals 9-seconds apart midway through the middle frame. CC then started their rally immediately following the two-goal hiccup and then added a pair of scores in the third.

The loss evens Concordia's weekend record at 1-1. The Cobbers beat No.9-ranked St. Thomas 3-1 on Friday night. CC is now 1-2-1 in their four games of the season. The Blue Devils win for the first time all year and improve to 1-2-2.

Jordie Bancroft started the Concordia rally when he netted his second goal of the season at 8:10 of the second period. Dan Hrabowych was awarded the assist on the play. The Cobbers got to within two goals at the 8-minute mark of the third period when Chris Beede scored his first goal of the year. Ben Payne and Brian Kang set up the goal and would be the main factors in CC's third goal of the game. Kang pulled Concordia within one goal at 4-3 when he scored with just 2:13 left in regulation. Payne and Caleb Suderman got the assists on the goal which set up a frantic last two minutes of play.

The Cobbers had a 6-on-4 situation for a full minute after Stout was whistled for a roughing penalty at 17:47. CC then pulled goalie Chris Neamonitis at 19:00 but was only able to come up with one shot and lost by one.

Concordia outshot the Blue Devils by a single goal in the game. The Cobbers had 35 shots on goal as compared to 34 by Stout. The Cobbers used two goalies in the game. Kelly Andrew started the contest and went the first 31:31 and made 15 saves. Neamonitis finished off the final 27:29, didn't allow a goal and stopped 15 shots. Nick Hopper went the distance for the Blue Devils and made 32 saves to earn the win.

The Cobbers open up MIAC play next weekend when they host St. Olaf in a two-game series on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Both games will be at the Moorhead Sports Center.
