Galt Headlines List Of Five CC MIAC Award Winners
MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/06/11)—Erick Galt, Caleb Suderman, Chris Neamonitis and Aaron Wheeler all earned MIAC postseason honors it was released by the league office and senior Mark McNaughton was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
The five players helped Concordia come within one win of earning their second straight trip to the MIAC playoffs. The Cobbers tied for fifth place in the final league standings with a conference record of 6-7-3. It is the second straight season that CC has finished in the top 5 of the MIAC.
Galt and Suderman were placed on the All-Conference Team while Neamonitis and Wheeler earned All-Conference Honorable Mention status. Galt becomes one of only a few Cobber men's hockey players to earn All-Conference honors for four consecutive seasons while Suderman earns his second straight All-Conference award. It is the second consecutive season for Wheeler on the All-MIAC Honorable Mention Team. Neamonitis earned postseason honors for the first time in his two-year career.
Galt was second in the MIAC in scoring by a defenseman in 2011-12. Galt finished with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Galt led the Cobbers in scoring in conference games as well as overall scoring. He had 15 total points in the team's 25 overall games. Galt's presence on the blue line helped Concordia finish second in the MIAC in fewest goals allowed. Galt finished his career with 12 goals and 55 assists for 67 points.
Suderman continued his silky smooth play on the Cobber blue line in 2011-12. One of the best two-way defensemen in the league, Suderman tied for second on the team in scoring in conference games. He had two goals and six assists in league play and two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in all games. He was tied for eighth in the MIAC in scoring by a defenseman.
Wheeler was tied for third on the team in goals in conference play and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals. He had three goals and two assists for five points in the MIAC. Wheeler finished with seven goals and four assists for 11 points in all games.
Despite leading the MIAC in save percentage and finishing second in goals against average Neamonitis was placed on the Honorable Mention Team. The two goalies that earned All-Conference honors finished behind Neamonitis in both categories. Neamonitis played in 12 of the team's 16 conference games this season. He had a paltry 1.96 goals against average and posted a 93.9% save percentage. Neamonitis was also first in the MIAC in save percentage (93.4%) and second in goals against average (2.10) in overall games.
