Neamonitis Named MIAC Player of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/21/11)—Concordia sophomore goalie Chris Neamonitis (Montreal, Que.) was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office. Neamonitis stopped all 37 shots he faced in helping the Cobbers post a 1-0 win over Bethel on Saturday.

Neamonitis is part of a 1-2 goaltender tandem for Concordia that has CC ranked first in the MIAC in goals allowed and fifth in the nation in that statistical category. Fellow sophomore goalie Kelly Andrew also recorded a shutout in the team's series sweep over the Royals. Andrew made 24 saves in a 2-0 decision on Friday.

Neamonitis and Andrew are currently first and second in the MIAC in goals against average and save percentage. Neamonitis leads the league in both with a 1.27 GAA and a 96.1% save percentage. Andrew is close behind with a 2.10 GAA and a 94.2% save percentage mark. The pair is also in the top 20 of the country in both categories. Neamonitis is second in all of Division III in both goals against and save percentage while Andrew is 20th in GAA and sixth in save percentage.

The two goalies have helped Concordia start the season by going 5-2-1 in their first seven games. The Cobbers are 2-1-1 in the MIAC and currently tied for third place in the league standings. CC will host UW-Superior in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center. The Cobbers will then square off with league-leading St. Thomas in a crucial MIAC series on Dec. 2-3 in Moorhead.
