A Touchdown To End The Season

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/18/12)-- Marc Harrie had a pair of goals and Glen Gayet posted a shutout in his only start of the season as the Cobbers capped 2011-12 in style by blanking St. Mary's 7-0. Concordia scored four goals in a span of 5:26 in the second period to post their highest goal total of the year.

With the win, Concordia finishes the year with a 10-11-4 overall record and a 6-7-3 mark in the MIAC. CC winds up in a tie for fifth place in the final league standings but does not make the playoffs due to the conference tie-breaking procedure.

Besides the two scores from Harrie, five different players notched goals for Concordia. Pat Deitz got the eventual game-winning goal at 10:58 of the first period. Braden Rahman scored in the third minute of the second period and then Harrie scored twice to start the four-goal barrage. Mark McNaughton and Brian Kang capped the quartet of goals in the middle frame. Andrew Deters picked up his first collegiate goal at 18:42 of the third period to finish off the scoring. Seniors Mark Johnson and Nick Thielen both had two assists in the final game of their careers.

Gayet, playing in his first game of the year, made 22 saves in the game to help Concordia post its third shutout of the season. Gayet also stopped a penalty shot in the first period to earn his first collegiate victory.

Concordia outshot St. Mary's 32-22 in the game. The Cobbers also finally clicked on the power play. CC was 2-for-3 in man-advantage situations. The Cardinals were not able to score on any of their six power play chances.
