Opheim Officially Earns Back-To-Back All-Conference Honors
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/09/22)---Senior Mason Opheim (Fargo, N.D.) was officially named to the MIAC All-Conference Team after finishing in the Top 10 in last fall's MIAC Championship Meet.
It is the second straight season that Opheim has earned MIAC All-Conference honors. He becomes the 14th player in program history to earn All-Conference honors in back-to-back seasons.
Justin Lamp was selected as the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
The league releases the All-Conference list after the spring portion of the season even though the conference championship meet takes place in the fall. The Top 10 finishers at the MIAC Championship Meet in the fall automatically earn the award and then five more selections are made by the coaches on the overall play during the entire season.
Concordia has now had at least one All-MIAC golfer for the past 13 years.
Opheim finished ninth in the final individual standings at the 2021 MIAC Championship Meet after shooting a 2-over total of 182 (32-76-74) for the 45 holes. He led the tournament after the first nine holes when he carded the 4-under 32.
Opheim was seventh in the field in total number of birdies for the tournament. He posted 10 birdies in the 45 total holes. He opened the meet by dropping birdie putts on the first two holes and had four birdies, and no bogeys, on the opening day of the meet.
Opheim led Concordia in scoring average in 2021. He his average score was 73.9 over the 11.5 rounds he played. He had one Top 5 finish and four Top 10 finishes in the team's five fall meets.
