Record-Setting Day At The MIAC Meet

HASTINGS, Minn. (5/01/21)---What's better than one record at the MIAC Conference Meet? Two records at the MIAC Conference Meet.

Concordia set a new single-day team scoring mark at the conference meet and senior Mason Opheim shot the lowest single-round score in the history of the tournament as the Cobbers made a huge charge toward the top of the leaderboard.

Opheim led a group of three Cobber players who all finished at even par or better on the day. Opheim recorded identical 33s on each side and finished with a 66. That mark is the lowest single-round score in MIAC history – bettering the old record of 67 which was held by three different players and most recently shot in 2013.

Opheim's 6-under total on Day 2 has him at 4-under for the tournament. His 2-day total of 140 (74-66) is one shot off the lead heading into the final round of the weekend.

The Cobbers finished the second round with a team score of 280. Their 8-under total set the single-round scoring mark by any team at the MIAC Meet. The previous record was 283 which was set by St. Thomas in 2017.

Concordia's total of 280 pushes their 2-day total to 581 (301-280). The Cobbers are five shots off of St. Thomas who is currently in second place and 16 behind St. John's who leads the team standings.

Justin Lamp and Tyler Bossert had the other two par-or-better rounds for Concordia. Lamp fired a 4-under 68 while Bossert had non-traditional 36s on each side and posted an even-round score of 72. Bossert had five bogeys to go along with three birdies and an eagle. Lamp was in the same boat as he had two eagles that went along with three birdies and three bogeys.

Bossert is inside the Top 15 after the second day. He is tied for 14th with a total of 148 (76-72). Lamp is one shot behind Bossert at 149 (81-68) and is in dole possession of 17th place.

Ryan Jenson was the fourth player who had his score counted on Saturday. He went out in 36 and came home in 38 for a total of 74. He is tied for 19th place at 151 (77-74).

Samuel Henke made it five Cobbers under 80 for the day. He shot a 79 and has a 2-day total of 153 (74-79).
