Plenty Of Positives In Season Opener

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (4/10/21)---Concordia might not have come away with the win in their opening meet of the season but their were plenty of positive takeaways from their dual meet with St. John's.

The Cobbers posted a sub-300 team score at Lynx National GC but fell 292-297 to the Johnnies. The first positive takeaway is that Concordia had only three team scores below 300 in the entire 2019 season.

The second positive takeaway is that the Cobbers had all five players on their first team shoot in the 70's and had two members of the second team also shoot below 80.

The final positive takeaway came from senior Mason Opheim who fired a 1-under 71 and tied for the overall individual medalist honor. The 71 is the second lowest round as a Cobber for Opheim. He also had a 71 at the SJU Fall Invitational in 2019 and carded a personal-best 69 at the King's Walk Invite that same year.

Senior Tyler Bossert and Freshman Ryan Jenson tied for 10th place with identical rounds of 75. Freshman Justin Lamp and Nate Longtin came home in 76 and were tied for 13th place. Sam Sadlowsky carded a 77 in his first collegiate round. Samuel Henke finished off the septet of players in the 70s. He posted a 79 in his first collegiate round and tied for 20th place.

One of the highlights of the day came when Jenson holed out a wedge to save par in his first collegiate round.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host Fergus Falls CC in a dual meet on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 12 p.m. at the Moorhead CC.
