Stromme Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/01/19)---Concordia senior Gage Stromme (Fargo, N.D.) was named the MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week after earning medalist honors at the Twin Cities Classic.

Stromme shares the award with Gustavus sophomore Jacob Pedersen who tied for the top spot at the Twin Cities Classic.

It is the first conference weekly award for Stromme in his career and he becomes the first Cobber golfer to earn Athlete of the Week honors since Coy Papachek won the award in 2014.

Stromme earned Athlete of the Week honors by shooting a 2-under par total of 215 at the Twin Cities Classic which featured eight MIAC schools. He shot under par in the first and third rounds of the tournament and closed out the final round by making an eagle on his final hole of the day.

Stromme's medalist honors marked the second time in the last three tournaments he has captured the individual championship. He also won the title at the Minn.-Crookston King's Walk Invite on Sept. 16. Stromme will head into next weekend's MIAC Championship Meet having shot under par in four of his last seven competitive rounds.

Stromme leads the Cobbers in scoring this season. His three rounds over the weekend dropped his season average to 73.9 for the year. He is one of only five golfers in the MIAC this year with a season average under 74.0.

Stromme will look to continue his success when he tees off on the first hole of the MIAC Championship Meet at the Ridges at Sand Creek GC in Jordan at 12:52 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Last year Stromme 11th at the conference tournament and missed out on the Top 10, and All-Conference honors, by a single shot.
