Gage-ing Another Tournament Win

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (9/30/19)---Senior Gage Stromme chipped in for eagle on his 18th hole in the final round of the Gustavus Twin Cities Classic held at Minnesota Valley CC to tie for individual medalist honors. His 2-under 71 on Day 3 of the tournament helped the Cobber jump up three spots and finish in third place in the final team standings

Stromme needed a "2" on the par 4, third hole to finish at 71 for the day and tie Gustavus sophomore Jacob Pederson for the tournament title. Stromme hit his drive in the fairway and then holed out from 139 yards to share the individual championship honor.

Stromme finished the 3-round tournament with a 2-under score of 215. He opened the tournament with a 1-under 71 at the Links at Northfork on Saturday and then shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday at Elk River CC before coming home with his dramatic 71 on Monday.

The win is Stromme's second in the last three tournaments as he also captured the title at the Minn.-Crookston King's Walk Invite on Sept. 16. Stromme will head into next weekend's MIAC Championship Meet having shot under par in four of his last seven competitive rounds.

Stromme leads the Cobbers in scoring this season. His three rounds over the weekend dropped his season average to 73.9 for the year. He is one of only five golfers in the MIAC this year with a season average under 74.0.

Concordia started Monday in sixth place in the team standings but then had their four scoring players all finish below 78 and posted a score of 295 for the day. The 295 is the third lowest team score of the year for the Cobbers and was their best round of the tournament. It was also the second lowest score by a team on Monday.

Senior Blake Kahlbaugh also had his best round of the tournament on Monday as he matched Stromme's 2-under 71. Kahlbaugh had four birdies on the day and went 4-under over his final 14 holes of the third round.

Kahlbaugh finished the tournament with a total of 226 (78-77-71) and posted his third Top 20 finish of the year by placing in a tie for 17th place.

Mason Opheim gave Concordia a trio of Top 25 finishers. He carded a 77 on Monday and finished at 229 (78-74-77). Opheim was 1-under after his opening nine holes but a pair of double bogeys on the back side cost him a chance at a Top 20 finish.

Tyler Bossert and Nate Longtin were the final two members of Concordia's tournament team. Bossert had an 81 on Day 3 and posted a final total of 234 (75-78-81). Longtin also recorded a total of 234 for the tournament. He opened with an 80 but then improved each day with a 78 and then a 76.

Senior Aaron Ryback played as an individual for the tournament and shot three rounds in the 70's. He finished with a total of 230 (79-74-77) and was just outside the Top 25 in 26th place.
