Stromme Tied For Lead At TC Classic

RAMSEY, Minn. (9/28/19)---Led by an opening-round 71 from senior Gage Stromme, Concordia climbed into third place after the first day of the annual Gustavus Twin Cities Classic.

The Cobbers started slowly, and were collectively 18-over par after the first six holes, but then they found their groove and went 11-over for the final 12 holes of play.

Concordia finished the day with a team total of 302 which is eight shots behind second place and one shot clear of a 2-way tie for fourth place.

The 302 is nine shots better than their opening-round score in last year's Twin Cities Classic.

Stromme had only one blemish on his card as he fired a 1-under 71 – his third lowest round of the season. Stromme is tied for first place with one other player. He was 1-over heading to the ninth hole but then birdies No. 9 and No.10 and strung together eight straight pars to finish with his 71.

Junior Tyler Bossert went out in 39 but then birdied the first two holes of the backside and shot an even-par 36 to finish at 75 which is tied for 16th place.

Blake Kahlbaugh and Mason Opheim were three shots behind Bossert as they both came home with a 78 and are tied for 39th place. Kahlbaugh was even par on the last 9 heading into the final hole but a double bogey dropped him to the 78. Opheim stumbled at the beginning of his round. He had a quadruple bogey on the second hole but then battled back to go 1-under for the rest of the front 9.

Aaron Ryback and Nate Longtin finished off the Cobber contingent.  Ryback had a 3-over first 9 and shot a 79 while Longtin fired a 39 on his last 9 and posted an 80.

WE LOVE THE 10TH: Concordia played the 10th hole in a combined 5-under par. The Cobbers had five of their six players birdie the 490-yard, par 5 hole.

UP NEXT: Concordia will move to the Elk River CC for round 2 of the Twin Cities Classic. The Cobbers will tee off on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m.
