Stromme Sets Sights On Future

MONTICELLO, Mont. (4/28/19)---The torch has officially been passed for the spot as the No.1 golfer for Concordia. Junior Gage Stromme finished off the 2018-19 season by leading the Cobbers at the St. John's Spring Invitational. He will be the top golfer for the fall of 2019 after leading the Cobbers in the final two meets of the 2018-19 campaign.

Stromme shot a 3-round total of 225 (73-74-78) to tie for 13th place in the final individual standings and helped Concordia to a seventh-place finish as a team.

The Cobbers opened the tournament with a score of 299 on Saturday which put them in fourth place heading into Sunday's 36 holes. CC then fired a second sub-300 round at 298 and was only four shots out of second place as they headed into the final 18 holes played in the afternoon at the Monticello CC. The Cobbers backed up 13 shots in their final round and finished with a team total of 908 (299-298-311) which was only five shots out of a Top 5 finish.

Concordia was one of only three teams in the 17-team field that posted two rounds under 300 for a team total.

Stromme, who finished 11th at the MIAC Meet, finishes the year with a 76.1 average and came away with four Top 10 finishes.

Senior Nathaniel Kahlbaugh wrapped up his collegiate career by finishing with a 3-round total of 230 which was tied for 27th place. He started the weekend with a 78 but then carded identical scores of 76 on Sunday.

Kahlbaugh ends the year with a team-best 75.6 average over his 17 rounds played. He had four Top 15 finishes. Kahlbaugh ends his time in maroon and gold having played in 67 rounds and played to an average of 77.1.

It was only fitting that junior Blake Kahlbaugh tied his older brother in the final collegiate meet the two would play together. Blake went off with a 76 and then came back with a 75 in the first round on Sunday but then finished with a 79. Blake ends the 2018-19 campaign with a 77.7 average which is almost identical to his 3-year Cobber average of 77.8.

Tyler Bossert and Nate Longtin finished off Concordia's Top 5 scoring team at the meet. Bossert, who earned All-American honors as a member of the Cobber hockey team this winter, started slowly with an 80 but then started Sunday with a 73 and ended the tournament with a 78. He was tied for 34th place with a total of 231.

Longtin posted the lowest score of any Cobber on the weekend. He blistered his way to an opening round of 72 which was good for a tie for third place. Longtin fell back on Sunday as her went 80-84 and finished with a total of 236.
