Montplaisir Repeats Top 3 MIAC Finish

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/10/16)— For the second straight year Cade Montplaisir finished third at the MIAC Championship Meet, earned all-conference honors as he helped the Cobbers finish fifth.

Montplaisir shot a final-round 75 and finished in a tie for third place with a three-day total of 222 (71-76-75). His total was two shots higher than last year's 220 when he also placed third.

Concordia finished the meet with a team total of 926 (305-315-306) which was 13 shots behind the Top 4 finishers. The Cobbers stayed in fifth place after each day's final total.

Montplaisir's third-place finish earns a second straight MIAC All-Conference honor as the Top 10 finishers at the conference championship meet are guaranteed to receive the all-conference award in the spring.

Montplaisir led after the first day after he shot a 1-under-par 71. He then put up a 76 in the second round to fall into a tie for third place. Montplaisir then came out and finished the three-day meet with a 75 to stay tied for third. Montplaisir's final total of 222 was five shots out of second and seven behind the individual medalist.

Montplaisir was the only member of the Cobbers to finish in the top 25 at the meet. Freshman Blake Kahlbaugh was the team's No.2 finisher in his very first conference meet. The younger Kahlbaugh showed his first-year nerves in the opening round by posting an 84. He then methodically improved each day. Kahlbaugh shot a 79 on Saturday and then closed with a 74 in Day 3 to post a total of 237 which was good for solo 32nd place.

Kahlbaugh's older brother Nathaniel Kahlbaugh was one shot behind Blake with a three-day score of 238. He carded an 81 on Day 1 and then posted his best score on Saturday when he came home with a 77. Nathaniel Kahlbaugh finished the tournament with an 80 on Monday.

Trevor Swangler earned the team's "rollercoaster" award by firing a 73 on Saturday which put him in the Top 6 after Day 1. He then stumbled to a 90 on Saturday which took him out of all-conference contention. Swangler then righted the ship to card a 77 on Monday and finish with a total of 240 which placed him in a tie for 35th place. His three-day total is a four-shot improvement over last year's total at the MIAC Meet.

Freshman Gage Stromme was the fifth member of the championship for the Cobbers. He shot three rounds in the 80's and finished with a total of 248. His best 18-hole score came on Day 1 when he fired an 80.
