A Blustery Day 3 At Twin Cities Classic

LE SUEUR, Minn. (9/26/16)—Concordia opened with a season-best team score of 298 on Saturday but then continued to go in reverse on Sunday and Monday and finished in 10th place at the annual Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus.

The Cobbers couldn't sustain their Day 1 success which had them in fifth place at pre-MIAC tune up. Concordia fell to a 309 on Sunday and slid into seventh place before shooting a 328 on Monday and finishing in 10th place. CC's final team total of 935 was only two shots behind Bethel who finished in eighth place.

The wind played a big factor on Monday as the Le Sueur GC was swept by gusty winds the entire day.

Senior Cade Montplaisir was the most consistent of any of the five Concordia golfers. He opened with a 74 on Saturday and then carded a 75 on Sunday. His 76 on Monday was one of the Top 7 rounds in the entire tournament field of 85. Montplaisir finished with a three-day total of 225 which was good for a tie for 12th place.

Montplaisir's final total of 225 is the exact same score he posted last season at the meet.

Montplaisir has now led the Cobbers in scoring for the last three events and he has been in the Top 2 of the team in all four meets this year.

Freshman Blake Kahlbaugh started the meet with the best score for a Cobber golfer. He fired an even-par 72 on Saturday and was tied for seventh after the opening round. Kahlbaugh then posted an 80 on Sunday and an 84 on Monday to finish in a tie for 45th place with a 236.

Fellow freshman Gage Stromme was two shots behind Kahlbaugh. He started with a 74 then carded identical scores of 80 and 84 with Kahlbaugh and finished at 238.

Nathaniel Kahlbaugh was the fourth member of the Cobbers on the individual result list. His best round came on Day 2 when he shot a team-best 74. Unfortunately the wind took its toll on Monday and he finished with an 87 to complete the tournament with a three-round total of 239 (78-74-87).

Sam Hendricks was the fifth member of the squad for the weekend. He had three rounds in the 80's and had a total of 247 (80-83-84).

AT HOME IN THE 70'S: Montplaisir has now recorded six straight rounds in the 70's. He has also been in the Top 15 of the individual standings in two straight meets. Montplaisir leads the team in scoring in 2016 with a 76.2 average.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a two-week break to get ready for the fall season-ending MIAC Championship Meet on Oct. 8-10 at Bunker Hills GC in Coon Rapids. Last year the Cobbers finished sixth at the meet. Montplaisir led CC with a 220 (73-70-77) and finished in a tie for third place which earned him all-conference honors.
