Sunday 70's Lead To Lowest Season Score

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (9/18/16)--- Finally. After playing through five rounds of up-and-down scores to start the season, Concordia finally put together four individual rounds in the 70's and posted their lowest team score of the year to finish in seventh place at the St. John's Fall Invite.

The Cobbers put up a team total of 300 on Day 2 at the Greystone GC in Sauk Centre. That score is the lowest of the season for CC by 12 shots and was the second lowest score of any team on the final day of the tournament.

Concordia opened the tournament with a 317 and then found their groove on Sunday to post the 300 and finish with a total of 617. That total was just two shots out of sixth place and seven out of the Top 5 team finishers.

Senior Cade Montplaisir was the Poster Boy for the Day 2 turnaround. He shot a 79 on Saturday and then posted a 2-under score of 70 on Sunday to finish with a total of 149 which was good for a tie for sixth place.

Montplaisir's Sunday 70 was the second lowest total of any golfer on the final day and was his lowest total of the year by six shots.

It also tied for the second lowest round of Montplaisir's collegiate career. Montplaisir fired a 69 in the first event of his sophomore season at the Village Green GC.

Blake Kahlbaugh, Nathaniel Kahlbaugh and Sam Hendricks all posted rounds in the 70's on Sunday and all recorded their low score of the season.

Blake Kahlbaugh was the most consistent CC golfer on the weekend. He shot a 78 on Day 1 and then followed that with a 77 on Day 2. The 77 ties for his low round of the year.

Nathaniel Kahlbaugh stumbled to an 80 on the first day but then backed that up with a 75 on Sunday and tied his brother with a two-round total of 155. His 75 tied his previous season low mark which he shot in the first round of the season opener at the Augsburg Invite.

The Kahlbaugh brothers came home in a tie for 30th place at the tournament.

Hendricks put together his two best rounds of the year. He went out with an 80 on Saturday and then fired a season-best 78 on Sunday. His total of 158 was good for a tie for 44th place among the 75 golfers and was his lowest season total by 11 shots.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia has one more meet left in the "regular season" to find its low-score consistency before they participate in the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will compete in the annual three-day Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus next Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
