Searching For 70's In Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. (9/12/16)--- Cade Montplaisir was the only Cobber golfer to break 80 on the weekend as he led Concordia to a 10th-place finish at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire.

Montplaisir shook off an opening-round 82 to post a 76 on Monday and finish with a two-day total of 158. That number was good for a tie for 28th place in the highly competitive tournament that featured the top teams in the region.

Montplaisir has now shot a 76 in one of the rounds in the first two tournaments of the season. Last week he opened with a 76 at the Augsburg Invite and then followed that up with a 78 in the second round.

Sophomore Nathaniel Kahlbaugh was the most consistent Concordia golfer over the two days played at the Wild Ridge GC. He fired identical rounds of 80 to finish at 160 and in a tie for 39th place. It was the first time that Kahlbaugh had been out of the 70's this season. He opened the year with a 75 and a 77 at the Augsburg Invite.

Montplaisir and Kahlbaugh are now tied for the team lead in stroke average for the year. They both are averaging 78.0 shots for the four rounds in 2016.

Sam Hendricks, Gage Stromme and David Vaughan all finished within five shots of one another to round out the CC contingent at the meet. Hendricks went 83-86 and finished in a tie for 69th place at 169. Stromme was one shot behind after carding rounds of 83 and 87. Vaughan stumbled in the opening round with a 92 but then rallied to fire an 82 on Monday.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will compete in another tough regional competition next weekend when they travel to central Minnesota to participate in the St. John's Fall Invitational. The Cobbers will play at Blackberry Ridge GC on Saturday, Sept. 17 and then at Greystone GC on Sunday, Sept. 18.
