A Terrific Day 2 Turnaround

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/14/15)—Concordia had four players shoot in the 70's and fired their first sub-300 team score of the season. The Cobbers' 299 on Day 2 of the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invite helped them springboard into a tie for second place in the final team standings.

Concordia finished with a two-day total of 606 which was three shots behind team champion, and host, Wis.-Eau Claire. The Cobbers tied with fellow MIAC squad Augsburg. CC beat other conference schools Bethel, St. Thomas, Gustavus, St. Olaf, Macalester and Carleton.

Concordia was led by junior Cade Montplaisir who shot a 75 on Monday and finished in second place with a 147 total. Montplaisir carded a 72 in the opening round and has now led CC in both tournaments in 2015 and has posted back-to-back top 15 finishes. Montplaisir was just one shot behind the individual medalist in Eau Claire.

The Cobbers had a couple of players make huge improvements after Day 1. Landon Poss shot an 83 on Sunday but then went 11 strokes better on Monday to post an even-par 72 and finish with a two-day total of 155. He tied for 29th place in the individual standings.

Junior Trevor Swangler had the biggest turnaround on the team. He went from an 85 on Day 1 to a 73 on the final day. His total of 158 pushed him into the top 50 of the meet.

Freshman Sam Hendricks rounded out the top 4 for the Cobbers at the meet. He finished as the No.2 golfer for the Cobbers. Hendricks had a 75 on Saturday and then came home with a 79 on Monday and ended with a 154 which was good for a tie for 23rd place.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will face another tough regional test when they play in the St. John's Fall Invite next weekend. The Cobbers will play at Blackberry Ridge GC on Saturday, Sept. 19 and then tour Greystone GC on Sunday, Sept. 20.
