Megorden Gets His Chance To Shine

Benson, Minn. (9/18/14)— Concordia head coach Duane Siverson used the Cougar Invite to give some of the lesser known Cobber golfers a chance to step into the spotlight and senior Micah Megorden responded with his first top 10 finish of the year in leading CC to a third-place team finish.

Megorden toured the Benson Golf Course in 77 shots and wound up in a tie for sixth place. It was the first competitive round of the year for Megorden. Last year he played in two events, scored in five  rounds and finished with an 81.0 stroke average. Megorden shot an 88 at last year's Cougar Invite and finished in a tie for 33rd place.

Concordia had their next four golfers all finish within two strokes of one another and all placed in the top 25 of the meet.

Junior Max Smith and sophomore David Vaughan had identical 80's for the day and came home in a tie for 13th place.

Sophomore Zach Whitchurch was one shot off of Smith and Vaughan and carded an 81 to finish in a tie for 20th place. Fellow sophomore Josh Peterson rounded out the top 5 golfers for Concordia at the meet. He was one shot behind Whitchurch and tied for the No.22 spot in the tournament with an 82.

The Cobbers will return to action over the weekend when they play in the highly competitive Wis.-Eau Claire Blugold Invite. The two-day tournament will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Sept. 22 at the Eau Claire Country Club.
