A Succesful, And Too Short, Stint At SJU Invite

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (4/26/14)—Concordia, led by junior Coy Papachek, continued to improve and be successful in their spring season as the Cobbers finished fourth at the rain shortened St. John's Spring Invite. The tournament was scheduled to be played over the course of two rounds but was cut short because of rain and unplayable conditions.

Papachek fired a one-under par 71 on Saturday which helped Concordia card a total team score of 298. That ties for the third best team round of the 2013-14 season for the Cobbers. CC was just two shots off the three-way tie for first place at 296. It marks the fourth time during the fall/spring season that Concordia has shot under 300.

Papachek's 71 was one of only six rounds under par on the day. He finished in a tie for third place, three shots out of the eventual winner of the tournament. It is the second straight spring tournament that Papachek has led Concordia. He carded a two-round total of 146 at last weekend's Jamestown Spring Classic and placed second. Papchek has now posted a trio of top 3 finishes on the year. He also has four top 10 finishes and been in the top 20 in six of the seven tournaments in the season.

Papachek's 71 dropped his season scoring to 75.2 which is the second lowest on the team.

Cade Montplaisir was the only other Cobber golfer to garner a top 20 finish at the SJU meet. He came home in 75 and tied for 16th place. It is Montplaisir's second straight top 20 finish of the spring season.

Sam Christian, Trevor Swangler and Alex Koopmeiners were the other Cobber top 5 golfers on the day. Christian and Swangler both carded identical 76's and tied for 27th place in the field of 97 golfers. Koopmeiners finished with a final total of 80 on Saturday.

Concordia will now wait to see if they earn one of the at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. The 41-team field will be announced on Monday, May at 4p.m.
