Getting Back To Two-Day Tournament Golf

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (4/22/14)—After several cancellations and postponements Concordia was finally able to play in a two-day invitational at Jamestown and came away with a tie for second-place finish at the Jamestown Spring Classic.

The Cobbers tuned up for their first multi-team tournament by playing a dual against Minn.-Morris last week and used that opening round to shoot a final score of 618. That team total tied the host Jimmies of Jamestown and was 16 shots behind tournament champion Rocky Mountain College.

The second-day 302 is the sixth best individual round team score of the 2013-14 season. The Cobbers shaved six strokes off their opening round total of 312 at the Jamestown Country Club.

Concordia was led by junior Coy Papachek who shot identical 73's and finished in second place in the individual standings. He was one shot off the tournament champion. The total of 146 for Papachek marks only the second time in the fall/spring season he has fired a final score of under 150 in a two-day tournament.

The Cobbers had three other golfers finish in the top 15 at the event. Freshman Trevor Swangler shot a 155 for the two-day invite. He carded an 80 on Monday and then came back with a 75 on Tuesday. The 75 is one shot off his collegiate best.  Swangler finished in a tie for 9th place at the Jamestown Spring Classic.

Cade Montplaisir and Alex Koopmeiners completed the top 4 for CC. Montplaisir went 80-76 and came home in 156 and a tie for 12th place. Koopmeiners was one shot behind at 157 (78-79) and finished in a tie for 15th place.

Concordia will complete the spring regular season when they participate in the St. John's Spring Invite on Apr. 26 at the St. Cloud Country Club and then Apr. 27 at the Monticello Country Club.
