Starting The Four-Week Grind

SARTELL, Minn. (9/15/13)—Concordia shot a pair of rounds in the low 300's, finished with a team total of 622 and placed eighth at the St. John's Fall Invitational. The tournament started a grind of four tournaments where CC will match up with the top teams in the region and conference. That grind will finish at the MIAC Chammpionship Meet on Oct. 5-7.  

The Cobbers shot a total team score of 313 at Greystone GC on Saturday and then bettered that score by four with a 309 on Sunday at Blackberry Ridge GC.

Concordia had a pair of golfers finish in the top 25 of the individual standings. Junior Coy Papachek fired a 75 in the opening round and then came back to shoot 76 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 10th place at 151. It is his second top 10 finish in the first three meets of the season. Landon Poss was just two shots behind Papachek but finished in a tie for 21st place as a bunch of golfers were grouped arounf the 8-over-par mark. Poss shot a 75 on Saturday and then a 78 in the final round.

Poss now leads the team in scoring average for the season. He has a 74.7 average over his six rounds of play. Papachek is close behind at 75.3 for his three tournaments.  

Sam Christian continues to have a solid junior season. He was the team's No.3 golfer for the second straight meet. Christian ended the tournament with a total of 157 (81-76) and was tied for 45th place. Max Smith was an alternate for Concordia at the meet but wound up with the fourth best score for the Cobbers. Smith went 80-82 and finished with a two-day total of 162.

Concordia will have a pair of meets this week. The Cobbers will compete in the UM-Morris Invite on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Pomme De Terre GC and then travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to participate in the UW-Eau Claire Fall Invite on Sunday, Sept. 22 and Monday, Sept. 23.
