Team On The Rise

HAM LAKE, Minn. (9/08/13)—Concordia continued to post early-season optimistic results as they posted a pair of team scores in the low 300's and finished fourth at the Augsburg Fall Invitational.

The Cobbers shot a 311 on the first day at Majestic Oaks GC and then dropped that total by three shots to fire a 308 on the final day of competition. CC's final total of 619 was only three shots behind runner-up Gustavus and one behind perennial league champion St. John's.

Concordia had three golfers finish in the top 25 of the tournament which featured 10 schools and 90 golfers. Sophomore All-MIAC golfer Landon Poss paced the Cobbers by shooting a two-day total of 151 (75-76). His consistent play earned him a tie for eighth place in the final individual standings. Freshman Alex Koopmeiners and junior Sam Christian provided the most optimistic news of the weekend for head coach Duane Siverson. Koopmeiners fired the second lowest total on the team and finished in a tie for 19th place. He posted scores of 80 and 75 with his second-day score of 75 tying for low team score of the weekend. Christian was the real surprise of the weekend. He shot a pair of 78's (156) and finished in 24th place. He played only two rounds in all of 2012-13 and had an 84.0 scoring average.

Cobber junior Coy Papachek filled out the scoring four for CC. He shot a 78 in the first round but then stumbled a bit on Sunday and came away with an 81 to shoot 159 and finish in a tie for 30th place.

Concordia's second team at the tournament was led by Max Smith who struggled in the opening round but then went carded a 75 on Sunday and had a two-day total of 161 to find a spot in the top 40.

The Cobbers will continue their fall season when they play at the St. John's Fall Invitational on Sept.14-15 at Greystone GC and Blackberry Ridge GC.
