Papachek's Career-Best Catapults Cobbers To Second

MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/31/13)—Cobber  junior Coy Papachek rallied to shoot a careerr-best 4-under 68 in the second day of the Concordia Invite to help CC finish second as a team. Concordia finished the two-day tournament with a final score of 584 (291-293) which was four shots better than any other Division II or III school in the competition.

Papachek, who was the GCAA Freshman of the Year in 2011-12, rebounded from an opening round 74 and finished fifth in the individual standings. His 68 on Day 2 is the lowest round of his collegiate career and marks the first time he has shot in the 60's.

Landon Poss fired the second lowest total for the Cobbers. He shot a 73 in the opener and then came back with a 71 to finish in seventh place. Poss is coming off a freshman season which saw him capture MIAC All-Conference honors.

Cobber freshman Cade Montplaisir had the second lowest round of the tournament of any CC golfer. He carded a 70 in the first round but then dropped to an 80 on Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 150.

Sam Christian and Trevor Swangler rounded out the top 5 for Concordia's top team. Both athletes finished in a tie for 17th place with a total 152. Christian was consistent for the tournament with a pair of 76's while Swangler fired a 74 on Day 1 and then came home with a 78.              

Alex Koopmeiners led Concordia's second team with a pair of 77's and finished 23rd. The Cobbers' third team was led by Michael Waataja who finished with a total score of 157 (77-80) and was in a tie for 25th place.

Concordia will head to the Twin Cities next weekend to compete in the Augsburg Invite at Majestic Oaks GC.
