Poss Steps Out Of The Shadows At The MIAC Meet

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/08/12)—Freshman Landon Poss stepped out from the shadows of his more-experienced teammates and fired a 227 (76-78-73) to finish in a tie for eighth place and earn All-MIAC honors at the conference championship meet held at Bunker Hills GC on Monday.

Poss' three rounds in the 70's were a team-best for Concordia and helped the Cobbers finish fifth at the MIAC Meet. Poss becomes only the second Cobber first-year golfer to earn All-Conference honors in his very first league meet since the 2004 season. In addition, Poss' final round 73 is his second best collegiate round ever and caps a string where he shot under 80 in five of his final six competitive rounds.

Concordia finished with a consistent team total of 941 (314-313-314). That total is 13 shots off the pace from last year but CC wound up finishing in fifth place as opposed to their sixth-place finish in 2011.

The Cobbers had their No.2, 3 and 4 golfers bunched within 10 shots of one another. Coy Papachek finished with a three-round total of 234 (75-80-79) and finished in 15th place. That is 10 spots better than his finish from a year ago. Andrew Whitchurch closed out his conference career by firing a 238 (81-74-83). The 2010 conference individual medalist finished in a tie for 22nd place. Max Smith was the other member of the top 4 for Concordia. He had three rounds in the low 80's, carded a final total of 244 (83-81-80) and was in a tie for 29th place. Senior Jordie Siverson was never able to get on track all weekend and shot three consecutive rounds of 82. His total of 246 pushed him into a tie for 31st place.

Concordia will now have a break for the winter before heading back to the course during spring break when they head west for warmer weather.
