12-Stroke Improvement Highlights St. John's Invite

SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (9/16/12)—Concordia improved by 12 strokes from Saturday to Sunday and finished 12th at the highly-competitive St. John's Invite. The Cobbers shot a 306 on Sunday and carded a two-day total of 624.

The meet, which featured all 10 MIAC teams, was played at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course on Saturday and Greystone Golf Course on Sunday.

The Cobbers were led by senior Andrew Whitchurch who came home with a two-day total of 149 (78-71) and finished in a tie for 13th place. He was the only CC golfer to shoot in the 70's both rounds. His 71 on Sunday tied for the fourth lowest round of the entire tournament.

After Whitchurch, Concordia had a pair of players finish within four shots of one another. Sophomore Coy Papachek improved by five strokes from his opening round 80 and finished with a final total of 155 (80-75). He tied for 35th place. Jordie Siverson was close behind at 159. He fired a consistent 80-79 and was all alone in 57th place. Barrett Freeland, who was competing as an individual for CC, showed the biggest improvement from day 1 to day 2 as he bettered his opening round score of 84 by eight shots and carded a 76 on Sunday.    

The Cobbers will now square off against UM-Morris in a dual meet on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Pomme De Terre Golf Course. Concordia will then travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to participate in the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invite on Sunday, Sept. 23 and Monday, Sept. 24.
