Whitchurch Paces Cobbs To 2nd Place In 2012 Opener
Moorhead, Minn. (9/01/12)-- Senior Andrew Whitchurch fired a 2-over-par 145 (69-76) and finished in a tie for second place to help the Cobbers capture second place in the season-opening Concordia Invite.

As a team Concordia shot a sub-300 round in the opening round of the tournament on Friday but then followed that up with a 311 in much windier conditions on Saturday. The final team total of 605 was 16 shots off the pace set by the University of Manitboa who won the invite with a final total of 589/
Whitchurch's opening round score of 69 was the second lowest round by any individual in the tournament. He was one of three Cobber golfers that finished in the top 10 of the tournament. Last year's Region Freshman of the Year Coy Papachek carded a 150 (73-77) and finished in a four-way tie for fifth place while freshman Jordan Larson placed ninth with a final total of 152 (75-77).
The Cobbers had two other players finish in the top 15. Both Jordie Siverson and Dylan Ferrell posted identical 76-80's to come home with a two-round total of 156 and finish in a tie for 14th place.
Concordia will step up in class next weekend when they head to the Bemidji State Invite. The Cobbers will be the only non NCAA Division II team when they play at the Bemidji Town and Country Club on Sept. 9-10.
