Ice Cold Second Half Stops Cobbers In Northfield
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (02/02/22)--- To say Concordia went ice cold in the second half would be a bit of an understatement.
The Cobbers went 0-for-3 from outside the arc, 6-for-22 (27.3%) from the floor and were outrebounded 21-11 in the final 20 minutes of play as a 7-point halftime lead turned into a 69-56 loss at St. Olaf.
Concordia led by as many as nine points in the first half, and was still tied with the Oles at 48-48 midway through the second half, but then a 16-4 run over a span of 5:05 gave St. Olaf a 12-point lead at 64-52 and proved too much to overcome down the stretch.
The loss drops the Cobbers' record to 4-11. CC is now 3-9 in the MIAC. St. Olaf wins for the second straight time and is now 10-9 and 6-8 in league play.
Concordia finished the game by shooting 41.7% (20-for-48) from the field in the game after they connected on 53.8% of their FG attempts in the first half. CC was 2-for-9 (22.2%) from distance for the game and went 14-for-16 (87.5%) from the foul line.
The Oles held a 33-28 edge on the glass and outscored the Cobbers 40-32 in points in the paint.
Junior Braeton Motschenbacher led Concordia with 20 points. He went 8-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line to record his third 20-or-more-point game of the season.
Freshman Rowan Nelson returned to his double-digit scoring form. He went 6-fof-13 from the floor and finished with 14 points.
Guards Jackson Jangula and Talon Hoffer both pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Hoffer continues to lead the team in rebounding with a 5.5 rpg average. He also had seven points in the game.
