First-Half Struggles Lead To Conference Road Loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (11/16/21)---To say things didn't go well in the first half for the Cobbers in their conference opener at Carleton would be an understatement. Concordia gave up the first seven points of the game, conceded a 20-2 in the middle of the period and shot 22.2% (6-for-27) from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.

All the first half elements led to a 96-57 loss in Northfield. The Cobbers trailed 49-18 at the halftime break, but then shot 43.3% (13-for-30) from the floor in the final half and were able to stay close with the Knights for the second 20-minute period.

The Cobbers were led by a pair of freshmen. Rowan Nelson and Dylan Inniger were the only CC players to score in double figures. Nelson went 4-for-4 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points. Inniger was also 4-for-4 from the foul stripe and had 10 points.

Junior Braeton Motschenbacher had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with eight points. Jackson Jangula had the best shooting night of any Concordia player. He went 4-for-7 from the floor and had eight points.

Concordia held a 13-7 edge in offensive rebounds but trailed 36-33 in total rebounds. The Cobbers were also outscored 40-30 in points in the paint and 23-2 in points off of turnovers.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return home for a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 20. The Cobbers will battle UMAC opponent Wis.-Superior at 3 p.m.
