2nd-Half Rally Falls Just Short

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/19/20)---Concordia rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit, got to within three points of visiting Macalester in the final seconds of play but had their game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer fall just short.

The Cobbers got to within a single point with 5:40 left in the second half and kept knocking at the door of taking a lead but couldn't put a scoring streak together in the final minutes of play and fell 73-70 to the Scots in the final home game of the season.          

Concordia connected on seven more field goals than Macalester and held a 28-20 advantage in points in the paint but the Scots were able to make five more 3-pointers and connect on 12 more free throws in the game to earn the 3-point win.

Freshman Braeton Motschenbacher led all players with 19 points. He was 8-for-14 from the field as he missed his career-high point total by a single point.

Seniors Tommy Schyma and John Reiten closed out their Memorial Auditorium careers by posting double-digit point totals. Schyma was 6-for-13 from the field and had 15 points while Reiten was 5-for-8 from the field and finished with 10 points – all of which he scored in the second half. Reiten also had seven rebounds in the game.

Freshman Camden Arndt recorded a career-high rebound total. He had three offensive boards and finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Cobbers shot 47.0% (31-for-66) from the field and 30.8% (4-for-13) from outside the arc while Macalester hit on 49.0% (24-for-49) of their attempts from the floor and 47.4% (9-for-19) of their chances from 3-point range.

INSIDE STAT INFO: Braeton Motschenbacher loves playing against Macalester. The top two scoring totals of his freshman season came against the Scots. Motschenbacher had 18 points in the first game between the teams on Jan. 8.
