Cobbs Fall At Hot-Shooting St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/08/20)---Concordia ran into a hot outside-shooting No.4-ranked St. Thomas team and lost 97-58. The Tommies made 18 3-pointers and shot 55.4% from the floor to earn the win.

The Cobbers never led in the game and fell behind in the first half due to a 26-4 scoring stretch by St. Thomas. Concordia trailed by a single point in the first half but then the Tommies made their run and opened the game into a 23-point advantage.

Concordia connected on only 24.1% (7-for-29) of their shots from the floor and didn't make a 3-pointer (0-for-5) in the first half of play as they trailed by 27 at the break. The Cobbers then found their scoring touch in the second half and put up 39 points behind 52.2% (12-for-23) shooting from the field and 50.0% (3-for-6) shooting from outside the arc.

St. Thomas (19-2, 15-1 MIAC) held a 39-30 edge in rebounding and a 34-22 advantage in points in the paint.

Junior guard Bryden Urie led Concordia in scoring and rebounding. He put up 19 points and added 11 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season and his career. Urie also put up a team-high four assists.

Sophomore David Birkeland came off the bench and scored a career-high 10 points – all of which came in the second half. He didn't miss a shot in the game and went 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He also grabbed three rebounds.           

INSIDE STAT INFO: Concordia went 17-for-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line in the game. The 17 made foul shots is the most in conference play this season for Concordia and second most overall this year. CC made 28 free throws in their 75-69 win over Wis.-Stout.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will host St. Olaf on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5:15 p.m. The Oles are 10-11 overall and 7-9 in MIAC play. They are currently .5 of a game out of the sixth, and final, playoff spot.
