Cobbers Drop Road Game in Winona

WINONA, Minn. (12/07/19)---Concordia couldn't erase an 11-point halftime deficit and lost 69-54 at St. Mary's.

The Cobbers committed 13 turnovers and went 2-for-7 from outside the arc in the first half as they fell behind by double digits in the final stages of the opening period play. Concordia was able to cut the lead to seven points by scoring the first four points of the second half but then the Cardinals outscored CC 20-7 in the next seven minutes to push the lead to 20 points at the midway point of the half.

The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers after they had posted back-to-back wins in November. Concordia is now 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC. St. Mary's wins for the fourth time in five games this season. SMU is now 4-1 in all games and 2-1 in league play.

Concordia scored the first six points in the game on a pair of John Reiten jumpers and a layup from Adam Daggett. St. Mary's would then score the next 10 points to take a 10-6 lead before CC countered with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 10-10. SMU then took advantage of Cobber miscues to go on a 19-7 streak to push their lead to 12 points – a lead they wouldn't give up for the remainder of the game.

Junior Bryden Urie led all players with a season-high 18 points. He went 4-for-9 from outside the arc and also added seven rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Camden Arndt was 4-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the foul line and finished with 12 points.      

Jacob Fredrickson led the team in rebounding. He collected four offensive and four defensive rebounds and had eight total boards.

Concordia shot 37.9% (22-for-58) from the floor and 27.8% (5-for-18) from long range. St. Mary's shot 47.4% (27-for-57) from the field and 32.0% (8-for-25) from 3-point range.

The Cardinals held a slim 35-34 edge in rebounding and had a 16-10 edge in points in the paint.

The Cobbers had 13 turnovers in the first half but finished with 16 total for the game. SMU had 13 miscues in the contest.    

UP NEXT: Concordia will return home to host Carleton on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. in the final home game of the 2019 portion of the schedule. The Knights are 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC.
