Jangula Leads 2nd-Half Charge To Victory

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/19)---Freshman guard Jackson Jangula scored 16 points in the second half and helped the Cobbers overcome a 4-point deficit as they bettered St. Scholastica 82-77 in a non-conference game in Moorhead.

Concordia trailed 39-35 at the break but then shot 53.6% (15-for-28) from the field and didn't miss a shot from 3-point range (4-for-4) as they outscored the Saints 47-38 in the final 20 minutes of play.

The win is the second straight for the Cobbers who even their overall record at 2-2. St. Scholastica falls to 0-3 on the year.

Neither team had more than a 6-point lead in the first half and the Saints would take the 39-35 lead into the break.

The Cobbers trailed by as many as seven points to start the second half before making their decisive run in the final two minutes of play. The game was tied at 75-75 with 1:49 left in regulation and then Concordia senior John Reiten made a mid-range jumper which would ignite a 7-2 run to finish off the game.

The Cobbers made four straight free throws in the waning seconds to finish off the victory.

Jangula was perfect from the floor in the second half. He went 6-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 from outside the arc. His only miss came at the free throw line as he finished with 16 points in the half and a career-high 26 points.

Jangula went 9-for-12 from the field and 5-for-5 from 3-point range for the game. He also had four rebounds and three assists.

Jangula was one of four Concordia starters who finished in double figures in scoring. Reiten posted a career-high 19 points and collected six rebounds while Tommy Schyma went for 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Jacob Fredrickson recorded a season-high 12 points.

Concordia held the advantage around the basket as they attempted a season-low eight 3-pointers and had a 38-24 advantage in rebounds.
