Close, But Not Over The Top

STORY LINE: Concordia made several runs at overtaking Bethel in the second half but couldn't get over the top and lost 64-56 in Moorhead. The Cobbers cut the Royals lead to a single point on four different occasions in the final period and trailed by only two at 56-54 before Bethel scored eight of the final 10 points of the game.

RECORDS: Concordia falls for only the second time in the past five games and is now 3-6 in the MIAC and 4-10 in all games. Bethel ups their overall record to 8-6 and they are now 5-4 in league play.

DIFFERENCE MAKER: The biggest statistical difference in the game came under the basket where Bethel pulled down 22 offensive rebounds and turned those boards into 19 second-chance points. The Cobbers had four offensive rebounds and three points from second-chance opportunities. The Royals also held a 45-34 edge in rebounding and a 32-24 advantage in points in the paint.   

STAT STUFF: The other statistical edge came in total shots taken in the game. Bethel put up 70 field goal attempts as opposed to 46 for Concordia. The Cobbers shot 43.5% (20-for-46) from the floor and 50.0% (7-for-14) from outside the arc while Bethel made 35.7% (25-for-70) of their shots from the floor and 37.5% (9-for-24) from long range.

DAVIS DIGS IN: Senior Jordan Davis led Concordia in scoring. He went 7-for-12 from the floor and finished with 17 points. He now leads the team in scoring with a 12.2 ppg average. He has now scored in double figures in five of the last seven games.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off their 3-game home stand when they host St. Mary's on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7:45 p.m. The Cardinals beat the Cobbers earlier in the year in Winona and are now 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the MIAC.
