Cobbers Fall in 2018 Finale

STORY LINE: Concordia was outscored 10-4 in the final 3-minutes of play and lost 74-71 to Bethany Lutheran in the final non-conference game of the season. The Cobbers took a 67-64 lead on a John Reiten jumper with 3:27 left in the second half but then the Vikings went 2-for-4 from the field and made all six of their free throw attempts to seal the win.

RECORDS: Concordia falls for the seventh straight game and drops to 1-8 on the season. Bethany Lutheran wins for the fifth straight time and is now 8-5 for the year. The Cobbers wrap up their non-conference slate with a 1-4 mark.

CLOSE THROUGHOUT: The game was close throughout the entire 40 minutes of play. Neither team had more than a 7-point lead and there were 11 ties scores and nine lead changes in the game. The Cobbers held their largest lead, four points, at the 14:05 mark of the second half.

NOT SO FREE THROWS: Numbers at the free throw line continue to haunt Concordia. On Saturday the Cobbers attempted nine fewer free throws and connected on 13 fewer foul shots than Bethany Lutheran. Concordia was 7-for-16 (43.8%) from the free throw line while the Vikings were 20-for-25 (80.0%). The Cobbers are shooting 64.6% from the foul line this year.

DOUBLE-DIGIT TRIO: Concordia had three players finish with at least 10 points in the game. Senior Collin Larson had a team-high 16 points while Bryden Urie added 14 and Jordan Davis finished with 13. All three players are averaging over 10 points per game for the season and Davis leads the team with a 12.6 ppg average.  

UP NEXT: Concordia will turn their attention to the MIAC when the New Year begins. The Cobbers will host Macalester on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:45 p.m. The Scots are 3-7 in all games and 0-5 in the MIAC this year. They are coming off a 65-61 win at Northland.
