So Close In Season Opener

STORY LINE: Concordia trailed by nine points with 2:00 left in the second half and then made four 3-pointers only to fall 81-80 in their season opener at Minn.-Morris. The Cobbers trailed by two points 76-74 after a Jordan Davis long-range shot but then the Cougars made six straight free throws in the final 25-seconds to seal the win.

FREE THROW FALLOUT: Concordia recorded 11 more field goals, four more 3-pointers and held a 36-35 edge in rebounding but the Cobbers fell short on the free throw line. Concordia went 3-for-8 from the foul line while the Cougars attempted 28 more free throws and made 27 more foul shots. Morris finished the game by going 30-for-36 (83.3%) from the free throw line.

HIGH FIVE: Concordia had five players finish in double figures in scoring. That figure included a pair of players who came off the bench to put up at least 12 points. The quintet of Tommy Schyma, Cal Wright, Collin Larson, Jacob Fredrickson and Bryden Urie accounted for 80-percent of the team's total scoring output.

TOMMY TIME: Junior Tommy Schyma led Concordia in scoring. He went 7-for-13 from the field and finished with 17 points. His point total is the second highest in a single game in his career. He put up 20 points last season vs. Valley City State.

CAREER-HIGH TOTALS: Freshman Cal Wright and sophomore Jacob Fredrickson had career-high point totals for CC. Playing in his first collegiate game Wright went 4-for-6 from outside the arc and finished with 13 points. Fredrickson went 6-for-9 and added 12 points. Frederickson only played in three games in 2017-18 and his highest point total was two points. Frederickson also had a team-high four assists.
 
UP NEXT: Concordia will continue with their three games-in-four days stretch when they play Oak Hills Christian on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. The game will be played at Minn.-Crookston. The Cobbers will then play Crookston on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.
