Second-Half Start Slip Up

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/14/18)---Concordia trailed by five points at halftime at Hamline but then gave up the first 11 points of the second period, could never recover and lost by 11 points to the Pipers.

Concordia shot better from the field, made the same amount of 3-point field goals and outrebounded Hamline but it was the 11-0 run to start the decisive half that spelled trouble for the Cobbers as they lost 82-71.

Concordia (6-18/4-15 MIAC) shot better than 45.0% from the floor in each half and finished the game with a 50.9% (27-for-53) shooting percentage. That was slightly better than the Pipers who connected on 48.3% (29-for-60) of their shots from the floor.

Both teams made nine shots from outside the arc. CC was 9-for-24 (37.5%) as opposed to 9-for-19 (47.4%) for HU.

The Cobbers held a 32-29 advantage on the glass which usually bodes well for CC but the final score went against the trend of success when Concordia outrebounds their opponent. The Cobbers are now 6-6 when they hold an advantage on the boards.

Freshman Bryden Urie was a one-man offense in the second half for the Cobbers. He scored 17 of the team's 34 points in the final 20 minutes of play as he went 4-for-6 from outside the arc to try and shoot CC back into the game. Urie finished with a team-high 20 points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Collin Larson and Austin Rund also posted double-digit scoring totals for the night. Larson finished with 12 points to go along with six rebounds and two helpers. Rund tied his season high point total by going 4-for-9 from the floor, making a trio of long range shot and finishing with 11 points.

Sophomore guard Andrew Holen grabbed a career-high eight rebounds to lead the Cobbers under the basket. He also added two points and two assists.

STAT ADVANTAGE: The one area where Hamline held an edge over Concordia came at the free throw line. Concordia was 8-for-11 (72.7%) from the foul stripe while the Pipers made seven more foul shots and went 15-for-21 (71.4%).

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will finish the 2018 season when they host St. Olaf in the annual Senior Celebration game on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
