MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/13/18)---Concordia fell behind by seven points in the first four minutes of play, was outscored 11-4 in the final four minutes of the opening half and went on to lose 77-52 to Carleton.
The Cobbers couldn't contain Carleton's consistent offensive attack as the Knights shot 48.3% (29-for-60) from the floor and 47.1% (8-for-17) from outside the arc.
The loss drops Concordia's season record to 4-10 overall and 2-7 in the MIAC. Carleton improves to 8-6 in all games and 6-3 in league play.
The Cobbers weren't able to get consistent looks at the basket on offense and turned the ball over at inopportune times. CC shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the field and 21.4% (3-for-14) from 3-point range. Concordia also had 16 turnovers in the game which led to a 23-13 advantage for the Knights in points off of turnovers.
Collin Larson was the lone Concordia player with more than eight points in the game. He went 7-for-10 from the field and finished with 16 points.
Freshman Matt Veit came off the bench and grabbed a team-high five rebounds to go along with seven points. Senior Kevin Wolfe was 4-for-6 from around the basket and had eight points and two blocks.
LARSON NOTES: Collin Larson scored 16 points for the second time in the Cobbers' last three games. He also had 16 at St. Mary's on Monday. Larson has scored in double figures in three straight games and nine of the team's 14 contests this year. He leads the team in scoring with an 11.4 points/game average.
THREES BELOW ZERO: Concordia's outside shooting has been as cold as the weather the past two games. For the second straight contest Concordia made only a pair of 3-pointers and shot under 28.0% from outside the arc. CC's 21.4% shooting mark from long range against the Knights was a season low for 3-point chances.
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a week to get ready for their next conference game. The Cobbers will play at St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. The Oles are currently 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC.
