Alderman & Nelson Named All-MIAC

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/28/17)--- Dylan Alderman and Austin Nelson capped their seniors seasons by earning MIAC All-Conference honors for the first time in their careers.

Both Alderman and Nelson were named to the MIAC All-Conference Third Team for the 2016-17 season.

Cobber junior Austin Rund was the team's selection to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Alderman and Nelson helped the Cobbers stay in the conference playoff race until the final game of the season. The duo guided Concordia to a 9-11 mark in league play. Concordia finished in seventh place which was two spots higher than there seeded spot in the annual MIAC preseason coaches' poll.

Alderman was the team's starting point guard and captained the team's offense. He finished the year by leading the team in scoring in both overall games and against conference opponents. Alderman averaged 15.1 points per game in the team's 20 MIAC contests. He had a 14.9 ppg average in the 25 overall games.

Both his scoring average totals were career high totals for the two-year starter for the Cobbers.

Alderman shot 50.3% in conference play which was the second highest mark on the squad. He also had a team-high 25 steals which was eighth most in the MIAC. Alderman also led the league in free throws attempted in conference games and was second in free throws made. Alderman attempted 134 free throws and made 85 during the year.

Alderman scored in double figures in 15 of the 20 league games, scored at least 20 points in five games and had a career-high 33 points in the Cobbers' penultimate game of the year against conference tournament champion Bethel.

Nelson was right behind Alderman in scoring in both league and overall games. Nelson averaged 13.7 ppg in MIAC contests and 14.1 ppg in the 25 overall games. He scored at least 10 points in 15 league games and had a season-high 27 points in the game against St. Olaf on Dec. 10.

Like Alderman, his scoring averages were career highs.

Nelson was sixth in the MIAC in 3-point field goals in conference play (43-for-102) and was in the Top 5 of the league in both minutes played and minutes per MIAC contest.
