Road Rims Remain Unkind

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/17/15)—Concordia continued its trend of cold outside shooting on the road in MIAC games. The Cobbers shot a January-like 16.7% (2-for-12) from outside the arc and lost 62-55 at Augsburg.

Don't be surprised if the Cobbers hook up the portable baskets inside Memorial Auditorium to the back of the bus the next time they hit the road. The Cobbers are now shooting 27.1% from 3-point range in their six conference road games this year. The last three road games have been especially chilly. Concordia has connected on just 19.4% (7-for-36) of their long-range shots in their last three games. To string out the theory even farther, the past two Saturdays have been especially tough for CC. In their two losses on Saturday at Augsburg and last weekend at St Thomas, Concordia made just 2-of-19 (10.5%) of their attempts from outside the arc.

Despite the cold outside shooting, Concordia continues to have one of the most dominant players in the league on their roster. Junior Jordan Bolger had game highs in points and rebounds against the Auggies. Bolger scored 21 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to record his third double-double in the last four games. He now has four double-doubles in the last six games and seven overall double-doubles in the team's 13 games.

Bolger is currently second in the MIAC in rebounds per game (9.6) and third in points per game (15.6) in conference games.

Concordia (8-5/4-4 MIAC) went back and forth with Augsburg throughout most of the game. The teams traded leads 11 times in the first half alone and were tied at 43-43 heading into the last half of the second period. The Cobbers trailed by only two points with a little over six minutes to play but then went 2-for-13 from the floor in the final six minutes of play and lost by seven points.

The Cobbers finished the game by shooting 38.3% (23-for-60) from the floor and 46.7% (7-for-15) from the free throw line.

Junior guard Tom Fraase was the only other CC player with more than 10 points in the game. He put up 11 points and collected six rebounds. Scott Flotterud was 4-for-5 from the floor and added nine points while Brandon Giese dished out a team-high four assists.

The good news now commences for the Cobbers as they start a five-game home stand. Concordia is 2-0 at home against MIAC opponents . They are 3-1 overall at Memorial Auditorium this season and are shooting  41.5% from outside the arc during those games.

Concordia will start their five-game home stand when they host defending MIAC playoff champion St. Olaf on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
