Glas Announces Additions To Cobber Coaching Staff

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/31/13)—Concordia head coach Rich Glas announced the restructuring of his assistant coach ranks due to the departure of full-time assistant Freddy Coleman. Former graduate assistant Matt Petersen has now been named the full-time assistant for the Cobbers and Grant Hemmingsen has been hired as an assistant coach.

"The jump in positions for Matt and the hiring of Grant will be huge additions for our program," stated Glas. "Both coaches bring a unique perspective to the team and both will help us continue to grow as a program."

Petersen takes over for Coleman who took a similar position at NCAA Division I North Dakota State. Peterson has been on the Concordia staff for three seasons and has served in a multitude of roles. He has been one of the top recruiters for the program and was also the junior varsity coach for the past two years.

Hemmingsen comes to Concordia after serving as an assistant coach for Kentucky Wesleyan for the past two seasons. While at Kentucky Wesleyan, he also served as the women's golf coach.  Hemmingsen has ties to the area and the MIAC – having played at Augsburg from 2004-07. Hemmingsen graduated from Augsburg with a degree in Business Management. Before serving at KWU he was an assistant coach at Minneapolis Southwest High School for two years. Hemmingsen also coached at the University of Minnesota basketball camp for two seasons.

"Grant's ties to the area and knowledge of the MIAC will help continue our strong recruiting classes from the past several seasons," commented Glas.

Both Peterson and Hemmingsen will begin their duties in August.
