2012 Goes Out With A Bang

DULUTH, Minn. (12/29/12)—Concordia went on a 19-5 run over a 5-minute span in the second half and rolled to an 81-59 win over St. Scholastica in the final game of the 2012 calendar year. Senior forward Brandon Fisher had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cobber offensive attack.

Concordia turned a three-point halftime lead into a 16-point margin midway through the second half of play. The Cobbers used the decisive 19-5 stretch to rally after the Saints had taken a brief 33-32 leadin the first three minutes of the final period.

The win, in the team's final non-conference game of the season, pushes the Cobbers' overall record to 5-4. CC has now won two straight games and three of its last five. St. Scholastica falls to 2-8 on the season.

Fisher led the Concordia attack the entire attack as he had nine points and seven rebounds at the break and then added 11 points and four boards in the final 20 minutes. It is Fisher's first double-double of the season and marks the second straight game he has scored over 15 points.

The Cobbers had two other players with at least 15 points in the game. Andrew Martinson posted 16 points and fellow senior guard Dewon McKenzie added 15. Both players were 6-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Senior center Jason Huus had nine rebounds to help the CC effort.

Concordia held the advantage in every statistical category. The Cobbers outrebounded St. Scholastica 42-31 and had a 42-30 edge in points in the paint. CC forced 16 Saint turnovers and turned that into a 20-11 advantage in points off of turnovers.

The Cobbers shot 50.0% (31-for-62) from the field and 35.7% (5-for-14) from 3-point range. It is the second straight game that CC has shot at least 50.0% from the floor and fourth overall game of the season they have connected on at least half of their field goal attempts. Concordia is 4-0 in those games. The Cobbers also shot 82.4% (14-for-17) from the free throw line. It is only the third game of the year that CC has made over 70.0% of their foul shot attempts.

Concordia will return to MIAC play on the second day of the New Year. The Cobbers will play at St. Olaf on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7:45 p.m.
