This Weekend's
Home Showcase Event
Women's Soccer vs. UW-Eau Claire - Sunday
@ 2 p.m.
I know we will catch some flack for not using the
football game in this spot since everyone equates Homecoming
athletics with the football game. We realize that the football game
will be the "place to be" for a sporting event for Saturday and
Sunday but the most competitive game of the weekend will be the
women's soccer game.
The Cobbers and UW-Eau Claire have built one of the better
regional rivalries in the past few years and Sunday's game should
be no exception. The Cobbers and Blugolds have played five times in
the past six seasons with Eau Claire holding a 3-2 advantage. The
strange thing about the rivalry is that no home team has ever won.
CC is 2-0 in Eau Claire while the Blugolds are 2-0 in Moorhead. The
other game was played in River Falls, Wis. in the NCAA Tournament
back in 2006 with UWEC claiming a 2-0 win. All five games have also
been shutouts.
Friday, Oct.
12
The men's and women's cross country teams kick off the Homecoming
weekend by competing at the Jimmie Invitational hosted by Jamestown
College at Hillcrest GC in Jamestown. It is the last meet before
the MIAC Championship Meet so the Cobbers will be looking to get in
"conference meet" racing shape. The runners to watch for Concordia
are Hannah Knickerbocker and Tanner Sakrismo. Those two should be
the top 2 for the CC teams at the MIAC Meet on Oct. 27.
Saturday, Oct.
13
For those active participants in Cobber Nation, Saturday starts
with the annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m.
The only other home event on Saturday is the football game with
Hamline at 1 p.m. at "The Jake". The game should be full of
pageantry and celebration as we "Remember Our Roots" on the
gridiron. Hopefully the Cobbers will remember their roots against
the Pipers as CC has won the last 20 meetings between the two
teams. The last time the Pipers prevailed was in 1991 when they won
30-20 in St. Paul....The Cobbers are 9-0 at home against the Pipers
since 1991.
The Cobber men's and women's soccer teams spend Homecoming Saturday
in Arden Hills as they try and exact a little revenge from last
Saturday's football spectacle at Bethel. The men's team will be
looking to move into the top 6 of the conference with a much-needed
road win.
The women's soccer game could be extremely large in race for the
MIAC title. Concordia is currently 5-1-0 in the conference and one
point of second-place Bethel in the standings. No other team in the
championship race has less than the equivalent of three losses so a
win over the Royals would put CC in the driver's seat for the
league crown.
Sunday, Oct.
14
Sunday starts with the first action in the swimming pool for the
swimming and diving team. The Cobbers splash into the 2012-13
campaign by hosting their annual Alumni Meet at noon. Fans can stop
by the pool and see the future CC stars try and outlast the former
stars.
Cobber nation can go right from the pool over to the soccer field
for the showcase event of the weekend featuring the women's soccer
team against regionally-ranked UW-Eau Claire at 2 p.m. (See top of
the page).
