MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/1/12)—The Concordia football and women’s soccer teams are hoping Cobber nation will jam “The Jake” on Saturday, Nov. 3 for the two MIAC Championship games. The No.16-ranked Cobber football hosts No.3-ranked St. Thomas at 1 p.m. while the No.15-ranked women’s soccer team hosts Augsburg in the MIAC Tournament Championship Game at 2 p.m. Both games will be played inside the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Tickets for both contests will be $7 for adults and $3 for any student. Children age five-years-old and younger will be admitted free of charge.  Regular-season passes will be accepted for the football game and that includes all Concordia passes. Only MIAC passes will be accepted at the gate for the women’s soccer game. No other regular-season pass will be honored. The Cobber Athletic Department has purchased 150 student tickets to the soccer game so that the first 150 Concordia students that present their student ID will get in for free.

Depending on the weather, both contests will hopefully feature live statistics. The football game will definitely have live statistics and will also have a live audio feed.  Because of the lack of a covered press box at the soccer field and the forecast for rain/snow mix the women’s soccer game may not have live statistics but will have a live Twitter blog. The football game is not an official championship game but a Concordia win would put the Cobbers tied with the Tommies at 6-1 in league play and one game away from earning a share of their first MIAC title since the 2004 season. Concordia would also have a good shot at earning an at-large bid into the NCAA playoffs. A loss for the Cobbers and they will have a chance to post their first top 3 league finish since the 2005 campaign.

Concordia is enjoying its best season since 2005. The Cobbers are currently 7-1 in all games and 5-1 in conference play. The seven total wins are the most since 2005. CC is ranked 16^th in the AFCA Coaches’ national poll and 17^th in the D3football.com rankings. It is the first time that Concordia has been ranked in the top 20 in both major polls since 2005.

The Cobbers are ranked in the top 20 in Division III in both rushing offense and defense. Concordia is averaging 38.1 points per game and has won three straight games.  Concordia will face a St. Thomas team which is ranked third in the AFCA poll and fourth in the D3football.com poll. The Tommies have as won 25 straight MIAC games. The last time they lost in league play was in 2009 when they fell 20-17 in overtime at St. John’s. UST is ranked fifth in the nation rushing defense. St. Thomas is also in the top 25 in the nation in rushing offense, total offense, scoring offense, pass efficiency defense, total defense, scoring defense, net punting, sacks and sacks allowed.

The Concordia women’s soccer team is the 2012 MIAC regular-season champions and is making their eighth appearance in the MIAC title game in the past nine years. The Cobbers are undefeated in their previous two conference championship games at home. CC beat St. Ben’s 2-0 in the 2007 championship and edged Carleton in penalty kicks in the 2006 title contest.   

The Cobbers went 10-1 in MIAC play this season and won the league title by a full three games. CC is  t 15-3-1 in their 19 total games. The 15 overall wins are the most since 2009 and the 10 league victories match the school-record total from 2009 and 2004.

CC will square off against Augsburg on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the winner receiving the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
