Cobber Week In Review - By The Numbers
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/22/12)—The Cobber
sports information department wraps up a playoff-implication week
by going behind the numbers to take a look at what happened with
the Cobber fall sports teams.
4: The Concordia women’s soccer team earned
their fourth MIAC regular-season championship in the past four
seasons by posting a pair of wins on the week. The Cobbers blanked
St. Kate’s 3-0 and St. Olaf 6-0 to win their first
regular-season title since 2009. They also won the crown in 207 and
2006.
4: The Concordia JV football team went 4-0 this year. The
Baby Cobbers beat Mayville State last week which was the second
time this season they had beaten the Comets. The team also beat
Gustavus and Dakota College
–Bottineau.
7: The Concordia men’s soccer team has been
on the wrong end of seven penalty kick calls this season. The
Cobbers were whistled for two PK fouls on Saturday in their 3-0
loss at St. Olaf. On the other end of the field, CC has not been
awarded a penalty kick all season long.
10: The CC women’s soccer team also earned a spot
in the MIAC postseason tournament. The Cobbers will be making their
10th straight appearance in the conference playoffs
which is the longest streak by any team in the MIAC.
12: The Concordia volleyball team is one win away
from clinching their 12th straight MIAC playoff
appearance. The Cobbers earned their sixth conference win on
Saturday which is also the 12th straight season they
have had at least six league victories on the year.
16: Concordia women’s soccer player
Gina Weiss has recorded 16 points in the
team’s last eight games. She scored two goals in each of the
Cobbers’ wins last week. She is tied for fourth in the MIAC
in goals scored and seventh in total points.
35: Concordia football kicker Ben
Wagner made all five extra-point attempts against Augsburg
and is now a perfect 35-for-35 on point after attempts this season.
He is one of only two kickers in the MIAC that has not missed an
extra point this year.
38: Women’s soccer goalie Ali
Nelson recorded two more shutouts last week and now has 38
for her career. That is a new school record for most career
shutouts. The old record was 36 set by Britt
Reiersgord from 2005-08.
142: Concordia football wide receiver
Mark Whiting caught four passes for 142 yards in
the Cobbers’ critical win at Augsburg on Saturday. Whiting
had TD receptions of 45 and 56 yards in posting the highest
receiving yardage by a CC player since the 2009
season.
420: The Cobber football team has not trailed for
a single minute the entire season. That streak has now reached 420
minutes. Concordia’s only loss of the year came at Bethel
after the clock had already reached 00:00.
