2022 Cobber Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/27/22)--- Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced the Cobber Athletics Hall of Fame class on Wednesday. The group features four All-American award winners, the all-time scoring leader in women’s hockey history and a longtime Concordia Faculty Athletics Representative.

Three-time men’s track and field NCAA All-American John Ault, 3-time women’s track and field NCAA All-American Tracy (Berntsen) Beil, NCAA All-American, and first-ever women’s golf MIAC champion Kelly (Cornell) Dorr, longtime Concordia Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. James Forde, women’s hockey all-time leading scorer Katie (Jacques) Andan and football MIAC MVP Russ Winkels will all be inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 8 as part of the annual Homecoming festivities.
 
John Ault ’92 (Algonquin, Ill.) was a 3-time Indoor All-American in the shot put and weight throw, and was the first Cobber men’s track and field athlete to earn indoor All-American honors. He still owns the school record in the hammer throw and is second on the school’s all-time list in the indoor weight throw. He was a 6-time indoor All-MIAC, and 4-time outdoor All-MIAC honoree.   

Tracy (Berntsen) Beil ’95 (Hermantown, Minn.) was a 3-time Outdoor All-American, and 3-time MIAC champion in the 400M hurdles. She was a 3-time NCAA Outdoor Meet participant and competed at the NCAA Indoor Meet in 1995. She still holds the outdoor school record in the 400M hurdles.

Kelly (Cornell) Dorr ’92 (Thief River Falls, Minn.) was the first-ever MIAC women’s golf champion when the conference held its inaugural tournament in 1989. She also went on to become the first NCAA All-American in program history when she earned the honor in 1992. She finished her career as a 2-time MIAC champion.

Dr. James Forde was the Concordia Faculty Administrative Representative to the MIAC from 1992-2002. He has been a longtime advocate for Cobber student-athletes, and helped promote student-athlete success in the classroom, in athletics, and in the community. As Concordia’s Faculty Administrative Representative, he helped guide the nominations of student-athletes for NCAA grant, scholarship, and recognition programs.

Katie (Jacques) Andan ’03 (Tempe, Ariz.) is still the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Cobber women’s hockey program. She finished her storied career with 185 points and 111 goals. She was a 3-time All-MIAC honoree, and a part of the 2003 squad that stll holds the program record for most MIAC wins and highest MIAC finish in a single season.

Russ Winkels ’86 (Perham, Minn.) was one of the captains of the 1986 Cobber football team that won the MIAC championship and went on to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA playoffs. He is one of only a few defensive players in the history of the MIAC to be named league MVP. He also went on to earn All-American Honorable Mention honors.

This year’s Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.
