Senior Salute - Carter Steffes

The Cobber "Senior Salute" series is a way to honor all the Concordia spring sports athletes who had their senior season come to an abrupt halt. We want to highlight one senior each day to thank them for all their hard work, dedication and Cobber spirit they have show over their careers in maroon and gold.

Cobber Senior Salute - Carter Steffes - Men's Tennis

What was one of the things you were looking forward to most in the upcoming season?
I was really looking forward to the home meets that we had up next on our schedule. We weren’t able to play a home meet yet and I was looking forward to some family and friends being able to watch us do our thing. The final stretch of our conference season looked to give us a chance to make things interesting so losing that opportunity was disappointing.

What is one of the top things you will miss about being a Cobber athlete?
One of the biggest things I’ll miss as a Cobber athlete is all of the traveling and van rides with the boys. Sports allow for some unique bonds and group dynamics and I’ll miss all of my teammates through the four years, especially the seniors. I’m glad that I play a sport that I can continue to play for my whole life but I will truly miss the intense team competition and camaraderie that can’t really be replicated elsewhere.

What is something you are going to miss about Concordia College – away from athletics?
Above all I will miss the friend group that I have become so close close with. Simple things like late night study sessions, pickup basketball, and watching football on Sunday are already some valued memories. Shoutout to Nick Dee for getting me through chemistry.

What is one of your favorite highlights/memories from your time playing athletics/being with your team?
The biggest highlight of my playing career was coming from behind and clinching the meet when we were tied 4-4 against Saint Mary’s junior year. Nothing is more exciting than coming up on top in a pressure situation with the spotlight.

What is one of your favorite memories from Concordia away from athletics?
I loved watching my buddies in the North 40 play at Cornstock and every other chance I got to watch them. My lack of musical talent made me appreciate it all the more. They’re electric.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I’m not entirely sure what my next step is. I’m completing my management/sales internship at Sherwin-Williams and I might stay with them post-grad but I’m exploring other options as well. I’m also thinking about applying to dental or chiropractic after giving myself some time to re-evaluate.
