Cobbers Partner With Cops And Kids

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/13/16)-- The Concordia athletic departments has partnered with the Moorhead Police Department to form Cops & Kids and will share a special day of college football on Saturday, Oct.15 as the Cobbers take on Hamline.

The goal of this partnership is to provide a safe, healthy, and positive activity for the children of our community. Another main goal is to reinforce to the children that police officers are positive people who will help them in need. The athletic department also wants to showcase the school’s student/athletes as role models for the youth. The partnership will also reward good behavior of our local youth by providing an opportunity for children who may otherwise not be able to attend a collegiate football game.

Moorhead elementary, Grace Lutheran and Horizon Middle school students will have a chance to be invited as guests to the Cobber football game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. Adult supervision of children will be required. Cobber student-athletes will help direct the children to their seats, which will be located in the northeast corner of the stadium.

“The Cobbers and the Moorhead Police Department have teamed up in support of community engagement, stated Concordia Interim Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson. “Concordia will provide tickets to the Moorhead Police Department whose officers can distribute to reward good citizenship and enhance the relationships between the officers and the community. They will ask school administrators and teachers to select which students reflect good citizenship as well as extending tickets to youngsters who may not have an opportunity to attend a collegiate football game,”

Sergeant Scott Kostohryz, representing the Moorhead Police Department said, “We are grateful for the partnership with Concordia College and the opportunity to interact with the youth of this community in such a positive setting.”
