Scheels Cobber Athletes Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/16/16)—One athlete kept his team in the race for the playoffs and the other broke a school record that was believed to be in the books for a long time.

Men’s Hockey goalie Donald Oldreive  and women’s track and field athlete Hannah Lundstrom used stellar performances on Saturday to earn this week’s Scheels Cobber Athlete of the Week honors.

Scheels is pleased to congratulate the Cobber Athletes of the Week award winners. Each week the Concordia sports information department will choose a deserving Cobber male and female athlete of the week.

MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
DONALD OLDREIVE -
Fr., Bond Head, Ont./Bradford District HS
Oldreive made the most of his second start of the season by stopping all 17 shots he faced to record his first collegiate shutout in the Cobbers’ 3-0 win at St. Olaf.

Concordia was practically in a “must win” situation to keep its playoff hopes alive as they had dropped three straight games and had fallen all the way into fourth place in the league standings. With only five teams making the conference postseason the Cobbers needed a win to keep out of having to win both games in the final weekend on the season.

Oldreive was given the start after only having played in four games and less than 110 minutes all season long. He made the most of his opportunity by stopping everything that was thrown at him. His biggest contribution came in the first and second periods when he stopped 16 shots and held the fort while CC could its offense on track. The game was tied at 0-0 before the Cobbers scored once in the second and then twice in the third to earn the win.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
HANNAH LUNDSTROM -  So., Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS
Lundstrom ran really fast at the NDSU Thundering Herd Classic on Saturday. She broke the school record in the 200 meters and won the 400 meters in a meet that was dominated by NCAA Division I and II athletes.

Lundstrom’s biggest splash of the day came in the 200 meters where she clocked a 25.89 in the finals. Her finishing time broke the school record set by All-American Angie Pfeiffer back in 2006. Pfeiffer's record, which was believed to be able to stand for many years, was 25.91 and Lundstrom clipped it by a mere .02 of a second.

Lundstrom also won the 400 meters at the meet, when she crossed the line in a time of 58.63.

Both of Lundstrom’s times are the tops in the MIAC this season. She is also ranked in the top 30 of Division III in both events.
