Scheels Cobber Athletes Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/26/16)--- One athlete kick started a huge conference comeback while the other had a career-high scoring afternoon to help her team post a key conference victory.

Senior men’s hockey player Jordie Bancroft and junior women’s basketball player Crystal Amundson helped their teams gain valuable conference points and are this week’s Scheels Cobber Athletes of the Week.

Bancroft scored two goals in 12 seconds in the third period to start the Cobbers’ three-goal rally which eventually led to a shootout win over Augsburg. Amundson’s career-high scoring game gave the Cobber women’s basketball team a huge boost in their 64-60 win over conference rival Bethel and helped them stay in third place in the conference standings.

Scheels is pleased to congratulate the Cobber Athletes of the Week award winners. Each week the Concordia sports information department will choose a deserving Cobber male and female athlete of the week.

Scheels has been a longtime supporter of Concordia athletics and is excited to continue their showcasing of the great passion that Cobber athletes bring to the game. MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JORDIE BANCROFT – Sr., Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS
Jordie Bancroft almost single-handedly pulled out two points for the Cobber men’s hockey team on Saturday. Faced with being swept by Augsburg and down 3-0 in the third period, Bancroft scored two goals in 12 seconds to get Concordia’s comeback trail started. CC would eventually go on to tie the Auggies and then win the shootout after overtime.

The shootout win gave Concordia two points in the conference standings and pushes them into fourth place in the conference standings – CC is only two points from the top spot in the league standings.

Bancroft’s two timely goals pushed his season total to six for the season. He is tied for third on the team in goals scored this year and has four goals in the team’s last four games.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CRYSTAL AMUNDSON
– Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS
Crystal Amundson was nearly perfect in helping Concordia to a four-point win over one of the top 5 teams in the MIAC. Amundson went 7-for-8 from the floor and finished with a career-high 17 points as Concordia beat Bethel 64-60 to sweep the season series between the two teams.

Amundson’s prior season high was nine points and she bettered that mark in the first half alone. Amundson had 11 points and was 5-for-6 from the field in the first 20 minutes of play as she kept the Cobbers within striking distance of the Royals at the break.

In addition to her 17 points she also had three rebounds as the Cobbers stayed in a tie for third place in the league standings.
