Claussen Named Academic All-District

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/11/21)--- Concordia kicker Chris Claussen has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. Claussen, who graduated in May and had a 3.92 grade point average while majoring in Accounting and Finance, is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.

It is the first time in his career that Claussen has earned the award which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the first Cobber player to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team since 2014 when Domenic Fraboni earned the award.  

 The 2020-21 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.

Claussen was a 3-time MIAC Academic All-Conference award winner who was a 3-year starter for the Cobbers as a kicker and punter.

Claussen played in 30 games for the Cobbers over his three seasons. He was the team's kick-off specialist. He had 92 kickoffs in his career and had an average of 53.9 yards per kickoff during his time in maroon and gold. Claussen finished with 20 touchbacks in his career.

Claussen also served as the team's punter during his time at Concordia. He finished with 44 career punts and had a 32.5 yards per punt average. The longest punt of his Cobber career was 56 yards which came against Nebraska Wesleyan on Sept. 2, 2017.        

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.
